1. Who we are
The Knife Crime Prevention Awards (“KCPA”, “we”, “us” or “our”) operates this website and related platform areas, including nominations, nominee profiles, stories, news, forums, support tools, account areas, judging areas and staff management areas.
These Terms of Service explain the rules for using the platform. By accessing or using the website, creating an account, submitting content, making a nomination, adding support to a nominee or participating in the forums, you agree to follow these terms.
2. Using the platform
You must use the platform lawfully, respectfully and honestly. You must not use the platform in a way that could harm another person, interfere with the operation of the website, damage the integrity of the awards or place anyone at risk.
You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, staff areas, judging areas, administration tools, databases, servers or other restricted parts of the platform.
3. Accounts
Some features require an account, including tracking nominations, submitting stories, participating fully in the forum and managing your profile. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity carried out through your account.
You must provide accurate account information and must not impersonate another person, organisation, nominee, judge, member of staff, volunteer or public body.
We may suspend, restrict or close an account if we reasonably believe it is being misused, used to submit false information, used to harass others, used to bypass moderation, or used in a way that may create safeguarding, security or legal risks.
4. Nominations and nominee profiles
Nominations must be submitted truthfully, independently and in good faith. You must only submit information that you reasonably believe to be accurate. You must not submit nominations designed to mislead judges, artificially promote a nominee, damage another person’s reputation or abuse the awards process.
Public nominee profiles may display selected information from nominations, including the nominee’s name or organisation name, award category, public profile summary, impact information and support comments where appropriate. Contact details are not intended to be displayed publicly.
KCPA may review, edit, hide, verify, reject, merge or remove nominations and nominee profiles where this is necessary to protect the integrity of the awards, comply with these terms, manage safeguarding concerns or correct inaccurate information.
5. Stories, forums and user content
The platform may allow users to submit stories, comments, forum posts, event details, resources, support messages and other content. You remain responsible for content you submit.
You must not submit content that is abusive, threatening, discriminatory, defamatory, deliberately misleading, graphic, exploitative, unlawful, sexually explicit, violent, hateful, spam, malicious or likely to identify or endanger another person without consent.
Because the platform discusses knife crime, violence prevention, youth safety and lived experience, users must take particular care not to publish unnecessary personal details, graphic descriptions, revenge content, accusations, ongoing case details or information that could place anyone at risk.
By submitting content, you give KCPA permission to store, review, moderate, edit for clarity or safety, publish, display and use that content for the operation of the platform and awards, subject to our Privacy Policy.
6. Moderation
KCPA may moderate content before or after publication. Moderation action may include editing, hiding, removing, locking, declining, escalating or reporting content. We may also restrict accounts, remove forum access, remove story submission access or prevent further nominations where appropriate.
Moderation decisions may be made to protect users, nominees, young people, bereaved families, victims, campaigners, volunteers, judges, staff, the wider community or the reputation and integrity of the awards.
7. Verification and judging
A verified nomination means KCPA judges or authorised staff have carried out authenticity checks in line with the nominations process. Verification is not a guarantee that every statement is independently proven beyond doubt, and it does not guarantee that a nominee will win an award.
Judging decisions are made through the processes set by KCPA. Unless KCPA states otherwise, judging decisions are final.
8. Safeguarding and emergency situations
The platform is not an emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger, users should call 999. If a safeguarding concern is raised through the platform, KCPA may take reasonable action, including restricting content, contacting the user, escalating internally or referring to appropriate agencies where necessary.
Users must not use the platform to seek emergency intervention, make threats, encourage violence or publish details that could increase risk to any person.
9. Intellectual property
The KCPA name, branding, website design, logos, graphics, text, code and platform features are protected by intellectual property rights. You must not copy, reproduce or misuse them without permission.
You must only upload or submit content that you have the right to use. If you submit images, documents, videos, links or written material, you confirm that doing so does not infringe the rights of another person or organisation.
10. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the platform available and working properly, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, suspend, withdraw or change parts of the platform for maintenance, security, development, legal, safeguarding or operational reasons.
11. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so. To the fullest extent permitted by law, KCPA is not responsible for losses caused by misuse of the platform, reliance on user-submitted content, temporary unavailability, third-party services or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Information on the platform is provided for awareness, community engagement and awards administration. It is not legal, medical, safeguarding, policing or professional advice.
12. Breach of these terms
If you breach these terms, we may remove content, restrict features, suspend your account, block access, reject nominations, remove support comments, report serious concerns or take other reasonable action.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the courts of England and Wales, unless consumer law gives you rights to bring a claim elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms should be sent through the support page on the platform.
